A man is in custody in Hamilton after another man was found dead in a tent in the east end today.
It is believed to be the second homicide of the year in the city. The man’s body was located near the rail tracks in the area of Lottridge Street and Landsdowne Avenue. Hamilton Police investigators are still working to identify the victim and notify next of kin.
The police say they were told Monday (July 11) about a suspicious death. They located the man’s body after further investigation.
A 32-year-old man is in custody in relation to this investigation, but Hamilton Police did not indicate whether charges have been laid. They did note, “At this time, there is no indication there are any outstanding suspects.”
This is the second time in the last 13 months Hamilton Police have found a body near rail tracks. Last June, they had a “sudden death” investigation near Carter Park, which is just north of some rail tracks.
The Hamilton Police are asking anyone who might have been in the Lansdowne / Lottridge area over the July 8-10 weekend, or have information related to this investigation, to contact 905-546-4863.
The last alleged murder in Hamilton was in March, when 39-year-old Shane Grenier was found in the area of Tisdale St. S. and Erie Ave. in the eastern edge of downtown Hamilton.
Two men face second-degree murder charges in connection with that death.
