Man from Vaughan charged after loaded handgun seized in Brampton: police

A man from Vaughan is facing firearms charges after police say they found a loaded handgun in Brampton last week.

Just after 11:00 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 7), Peel Regional Police say officers were investigating two men in a vehicle in the area of Queen St. East and June Ave. in Brampton.

Police say officers seized a loaded semi-automatic handgun and drug paraphernalia and one of the men was charged.

Joshwa Rampersaud, a 20-year-old man from Vaughan, has been charged with:

  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was Firearm
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of Unauthorized Firearm

The accused was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Saturday. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
