Police have arrested a man from Chile and are searching for a second suspect following a break-in at a home in an Ontario town.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday when homeowners were returning to their residence in the area of Thickson Road and Carnwith Drive East in Whitby, Durham Regional Police say.
When the residents returned, they discovered two masked men at their back door.
Both of the men fled the scene before police arrived, but one suspect was located nearby with the assistance of a police helicopter and the K9 unit.
Police say Nelson Perez-Rojas, 24, of Chile, has been arrested and charged with multiple offences, including break-and-enter, theft under $5,000 and mischief.
The accused was held for a bail hearing, police say.
The second suspect is described as a male wearing a baseball cap, a dark jacket and dark pants.
