Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was found by Peel Regional Police early this morning (June 2) inside an Etobicoke apartment just east of the Mississauga border.

According to a brief news release issued Friday afternoon by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Peel police officers “breached the door” of an apartment at 551 The West Mall at about 2 a.m. and found the 39-year-old man dead inside the unit.

The SIU, which investigates matters involving police and the serious injury or death of members of the public, said the Peel police officers were at the Rathburn Rd./Hwy. 427 area apartment to “execute a search warrant in relation to a domestic violence investigation.”

The man found inside the apartment, identified by family as Kyle Andrews, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene, the SIU said.

A post-mortem will be conducted on Sunday.

The SIU says four investigators and a forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

Anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, is urged to call the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.
