A man has died following a fall at Hazel McCallion Central Library in Mississauga, according to police.

This morning around 10:20 a.m., the library announced it had closed suddenly and cancelled programs for the day.

A Peel Regional Police spokesperson told officers were conducting a death investigation.

Later today, police said a man in his 40s or 50s fell at the library just before 10 a.m.

He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The circumstances surrounding the cause of the fall are unknown at this time, police said.

An unverified post on X indicates the man fell from a mezzanine level inside the library.

Police were expected to be at the library for several hours but said officers had cleared the scene shortly before 3:30 p.m. There was no information on when the library would reopen.
