Man dead in workplace incident in Hamilton

A man is dead after a workplace incident in Hamilton on Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to reports that a worker had been struck by heavy equipment at the waste transfer facility on Strathearne Avenue in the city’s industrial sector at approximately 4:20 p.m., Hamilton Police said.

A 48-year-old man suffered critical injuries, police said.

Life-saving measures were started immediately, and the man was transported to hospital. Despite these efforts, he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the incident involved a commercial vehicle and heavy equipment operating at the site.

The Ministry of Labour has been notified and is assisting with the investigation. The Office of the Chief Coroner is also involved and has ordered a post-mortem examination.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time, police added.
