One man died in a house fire in Niagara Region on Monday.

Fire crews responded to the fire on Nineteenth Street near Seventh Avenue in Lincoln at approximately 2:45 p.m. on May 11, Niagara Regional Police said.

Lincoln Fire Rescue and Emergency Services found a working fire at the home. 

Firefighters found a man without vital signs in the home. The man, who was a resident of the home, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Police said the Office of the Fire Marshall of Ontario was called in to investigate the cause and origin of the fire, while the investigation into the cause of death remains with police.

Detectives from the NRPS 8 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have taken charge of the investigation. Their investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Forensic Services Unit.
