Man charged with murder in death of St. Catharines woman

A man was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of Tineisha Chatwin, police say.

Niagara Regional Police Service announced that it is confirmed that Chatwin, a 22-year-old woman from St. Catharines, died of a gunshot wound last weekend.

Chatwin was pronounced deceased early on Saturday (June 26) after officers were called to a residence in the area of Church and Queenston streets. The following day, Chatwin’s name was published with the consent of her family.

Subsequent investigation by the NRPS homicide unit led to the identification and the arrest of a suspect.

Elvis Berisha, age 21, has been charged with first-degree murder. He was taken into custody and will have a video bail hearing in a St. Catharines court on Wednesday.
