Police, assault, man, arrested, Mississauga.

A man has been charged with two unprovoked assaults that took place nine days apart at the same park in Mississauga.

Peel Regional Police say the first incident happened on Thursday (Sept. 19), just after 1 p.m., when a 73-year-old man was walking near Applewood Hills Trail and Bloor Street.

The suspect allegedly approached the man from behind and struck him with a weapon before fleeing the scene. Subsequently, the victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Along the same trail, the second incident occurred just over a week later, on Friday (Sept. 27) at approximately 12:30 p.m. A 77-year-old man was similarly attacked from behind with a weapon, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have not disclosed the type of weapon used in either of these assaults and it is unknown whether the suspect knew the victims before the attacks.

The suspect was arrested later the same day as the second assault, police say.

The accused, Marcin Golebiowski, 32, of Mississauga has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and disobeying a court order. He was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
