Man charged after numerous cars in Pickering are broken into

A suspect faces numerous charges after several cars in Pickering were entered by someone who made off with property inside.

Durham Regional Police got a 911 call around 3 a.m. September 27 to report a suspicious man seen trying to enter cars on Westcreek Dr. The street is home to a suburban neighbourhood and a public school.

When police arrived they found a suspect on the street. On his arrest, police say the recovered property that was stolen from the cars.

Shane Jones, 51 of no fixed address, stands charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, six counts of possession of another’s identity document, five counts of credit card theft and failure to comply with a probation order.

He has been released from custody with conditions.

Investigators advise residents in the area around Altona Rd and Finch Ave to check their cars for anything missing. Stolen property can be reported to police online.
