Man arrested after crashing vehicle and attempting to run from police in Hamilton

A man has been arrested after crashing a vehicle and trying to run from police in Hamilton this morning.

Hamilton Police say the collision involved a single vehicle and happened shortly after 8 a.m., in the area of Mohawk Road and West 15th Street.

The driver was a lone occupant of the vehicle and tried to flee on foot following the accident but was detained by nearby citizens until officers arrived.

Police say the suspect was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property under $5000. He was then transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mohawk Road West will remain closed between Millbank Place and Garth Street while Alectra Utilities conduct repairs.

Investigators have not indicated the cause of the crash nor provided details on the suspect, including his name, age and place of residence.
