A 30-year-old man was arrested after sexually assaulting and confining a 14-year-old girl in Ajax.
Durham Regional Police say investigations began on April 30 after officers received information from Hamilton Police that a girl had allegedly been sexually assaulted and forcibly held in Ajax over a period of days. Police did not provide specifics about how many days the girl was held or the approximate location.
Investigators say the suspect, who knew the teen through a mutual connection, picked her up in Hamilton and drove her to Ajax, where the incident is believed to have taken place.
Police say a man was located and taken into custody on Friday.
Gowryshankar Kathirkamanathan, of Ajax, faces several charges including five counts of sexual assault, five counts of sexual interference, uttering threats and two counts of administering drugs.
He was held for a bail hearing.
