Man accused of stabbing wife and daughter in Oshawa

A woman was stabbed in what police have described as a “domestic altercation” in Oshawa.

Durham Police responded to a home near Adelaide Avenue East and Townline Road North after reports of a stabbing on May 5. They claim their investigation discovered a woman was stabbed during a “domestic altercation” with her husband.

During the attack, police claim, the pair’s adult daughter tried to intervene. However, she was stabbed too, police allege.

Though seriously hurt, the woman was able to flee the house and reach a neighbour for help. The mother and her daughter were taken to hospital in stable condition. The daughter could be treated locally, but her mother had to be taken to a Toronto trauma centre. Both are in stable condition.

A 54-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with two counts of arrravated assault, armed assault, assault causing bodily harm and possession of a weapon to commit a crime. He remains in custody until a bail hearing. Police have withheld his name to protect the identity of the victims.

“Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial, and psychological abuse. It knows no boundaries and can impact people of all ages, genders, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds,” police wrote.

They continued, “This incident serves as a crucial reminder that we must come together as a community to support those affected by domestic violence and work towards creating safer environments for everyone.”
