After several days on the run, police have arrested Jordan Sangwin. He faces murder charges.

A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection with the deaths of his parents in Mississauga has been arrested after several days on the run.

Peel Regional Police announced that 46-year-old Jordan Sangwin was taken into custody Saturday night in Toronto’s Mimico neighbourhood in south Etobicoke.

Investigators said Sangwin was found inside a makeshift shelter near the Lake Ontario shoreline after officers received and reviewed video footage provided by members of the public.

Police thanked the public for sharing information and surveillance video that helped investigators locate the suspect.

Sangwin was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant on two counts of first-degree murder following the deaths of his parents, Carol Sangwin, 70, and Garwood “Gary” Sangwin, 71.

Emergency crews were called to the family’s Briarwood Avenue home in Port Credit on the evening of June 18 after reports of a disturbance.

Officers found Carol and Gary Sangwin suffering from life-threatening injuries. Both were rushed to hospital, where they later died.

Police have not publicly disclosed how the couple was killed, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The arrest brings to an end an extensive manhunt that spanned several days and prompted repeated public appeals from investigators.

Earlier in the investigation, police said Sangwin should be considered armed and dangerous and warned members of the public not to approach him.

Investigators had tracked his movements through Toronto in the days after the killings. Police said he was last publicly reported to have been seen near High Park late on June 22 and was believed to be travelling on foot. New photos were later released in an effort to generate additional tips.

The deaths of Carol and Gary Sangwin stunned the Port Credit community, where neighbours and friends remembered the couple as caring, devoted parents and grandparents.

A GoFundMe campaign launched in support of the surviving family members described them as beloved parents and grandparents whose sudden deaths left relatives and friends heartbroken.

Police have not released a motive in the case.

Sangwin is expected to appear in court to face two counts of first-degree murder.
