Nineteen year-old charged with stunt driving while rushing to get pizza in Whitby

A young man has been charged with stunt driving after a mad dash to his local pizza joint.
A Durham Regional Police officer was stationed at the intersection of Baldwin St. and Centre St. up in Brooklin at around 1 p.m. on March 21, police say.
The officer was in the midst of enforcing the speed limit as part of the Durham Police ‘In the Zone’ project when he spotted a car speeding down the curb lane.
Using his radar gun, the officer clocked the speeding car at 95 km/h in a community safety zone with a speed limit of 50 km/h.
The driver, age 19, told officers when he was stopped that he was rushing to get pizza, according to police.
He was charged with stunt driving and several other offences. His car was automatically impounded for two weeks and his license was suspended for 30 days.

This is one of Ontario’s harshest Highway Traffic Act charges. If convicted the driver could lose his licence for one to three years and face a fine of at least $2,000 for a first offence.
