Peel Region is planning a major wastewater infrastructure project in Brampton that will see a new large-diameter sanitary sewer installed along the Etobicoke Creek corridor to help accommodate future population growth.

The project calls for the construction of a new 2,100-millimetre trunk sewer between Kennedy Road South and Derry Road East. Regional officials say the upgrade is needed to expand wastewater capacity and ensure the system can continue serving residents and businesses as Peel’s population increases.

Before construction begins, Peel Region is inviting residents to learn more about the project and provide feedback at a public information centre scheduled for June 12.

The drop-in meeting will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Shoppers World Brampton, located at 499 Main Street South. Residents will be able to speak directly with project staff, review plans and discuss how construction could affect nearby neighbourhoods and businesses.

According to Peel Region, sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from homes and businesses to treatment facilities. The new trunk sewer will be installed along the Etobicoke Creek corridor and is part of the region’s efforts to maintain and expand critical infrastructure as growth continues across Brampton and the rest of Peel.

Construction is currently scheduled to begin in 2027.

Regional officials say public input gathered during the information session will help shape certain aspects of the project’s design and identify ways to minimize disruptions during construction.

Peel Region acknowledged that major infrastructure projects can create temporary inconveniences but said the work is necessary to maintain reliable wastewater services and support future development.

Residents who are unable to attend the meeting can find additional information online and sign up for project updates through Peel Region.
