Motorists travelling through southern Ontario can expect traffic delays in the western part of the GTA through Hamilton and Burlington during the next several days.
Lane and road closures will be taking place on the Burlington Skyway on several dates, and the Around the Bay Road Race will also lead to an interruption of traffic flow.
It all starts tonight (April 10) along the Niagara-bound lanes of the QEW on the Skyway.
Starting at 11 p.m., two of the four lanes will be closed until 6 a.m. on Saturday.
On Sunday (April 12), the Around the Bay Road Race will take over many streets in Hamilton and Burlington as the 132-year-old marathon will attract 8,000 runners who will follow a route around Hamilton Harbour.
Here is what will happen:
From 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be road closures on the QEW Toronto-bound exit ramp to North Shore Boulevard East. The North Shore Boulevard Road East Niagara-bound entry ramp to the QEW will also be closed. Drivers can use Fairview Street instead.
During the same time period, there will be lane closures because of the race.
- The east-bound lane of North Shore Boulevard will be closed from the QEW ramps to Plains Road. The westbound lane will be open for emergency vehicles and resident access only.
- King Road from Plains Road East to North Shore Boulevard East will be open to local traffic only. There will be no access past Ellengale Road to North Shore Boulevard.
- Plains Road West from Spring Gardens Road to North Shore Boulevard West will see the east-bound lane closed, but two-way traffic will be maintained.
- Spring Gardens Road from Valley Inn bridge to Plains Road West will see the east-bound lane closed. The west-bound lane will be open for emergency vehicles and local resident access only.
And that’s not all, because lane closures will again take over the Skyway bridge in the QEW Niagara-bound lanes:
