A heavy police presence – including K9 units – at the Oshawa Courthouse this week has some locals concerned but Durham Region Police are assuring residents it is simply a “training exercise.”
Durham Regional Police manage security at the courthouse and the deployment of K9 units and multiple officers is typical of targeted sweeps, perimeter monitoring and maintaining secure transport for high-risk individuals.
In this case, however, Durham Police declared in a social media post, there is no cause for alarm.
“DRPS is currently conducting a training exercise at the Oshawa Courthouse at 150 Bond St E. There will be a large police presence for several hours while the training exercise takes place.”
