Are you partying this weekend?

If you are, you might want to remember that not only is drinking and driving extremely inadvisable, it carries stiff penalties.

And police will be on the lookout for impaired drivers this Super Bowl Sunday weekend.

Peel recently announced that officers will be conducting Super Bowl weekend R.I.D.E on Feb. 2 and 3, 2019.

Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) focuses on detecting and removing drivers who choose to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police say officers conduct R.I.D.E. enforcement throughout the year and maintain a zero-tolerance policy with respect to impaired driving related offences.

Some tips to keep in mind this weekend, courtesy of the police:

  • Be responsible
  • Choose a designated driver. Decide who’s going to be doing the driving before you go out and make sure that person does not consume any alcohol and drugs.
  • Arrange for a separate mode of transportation like a cab.

“Impaired driving is no accident. In Canada, it is one of the leading causes of death on our roads that can be easily avoided by planning ahead,” police say. “Road safety is a shared responsibility. It is not worth risking your life or the life of another person. Please celebrate responsibly and have a happy and safe Super Bowl weekend.”

If you suspect that someone is operating a motor vehicle while impaired, call 9-1-1 when safe to do so.
