Major Oshawa intersection to be closed Nov. 19

The Region of Durham will shut down the Bloor Street East and Wilson Road South intersection, which is near Highway 401, for about 12 hours on Friday.

A new feeder main is being installed beneath the busy intersection, and periodic closures are expected to take place until a projected completion date in December. This time around, the intersection will be fully closed to through traffic on Nov. 19 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., weather permitting. In the event of unfavourable weather conditions, the closure timeframe will be extended to complete the work.

Detoured to the following regional roadways will be in place:

North/South via Ritson Road South (Regional Road 16) and Harmony Road (Regional Road 33)/ Farewell Street (Regional Road 50)
East/ West via Olive Avenue (Regional Road 59) and Wentworth Street East (Regional Road 60)

Local traffic and emergency vehicles are exempt from the closure and local businesses will remain open.

In a release, the region said it acknowledges that municipal construction projects are disruptive, since include the use of equipment which may cause noticeable noise and vibration for nearby residents and businesses.
