UPDATE: Major HWY 401 traffic caused by outlet mall just outside of Mississauga in Halton Hills

LATEST UPDATE: As of 2 p.m., The OPP says all on and off-ramps at Hwy 401 and Trafalgar Road are temporarily closed due to traffic congestion. 

Individuals are asked to avoid the area for the time being.

Police have not indicated when they anticipate the roads to reopen.


UPDATE: Police say as of 12:30 p.m., the traffic back-up on the highway near Toronto’s Premium Outlet has now cleared and the ramp is open to motorists.


UPDATE: Mississauga OPP is informing motorists that the westbound off-ramp on Trafalgar Road is now closed.

Police have not mentioned when they anticipate to reopen the area.

Drivers are asked to not park or walk on the shoulder of the highway to gain access to the mall.


Residents or visitors in the Halton area who are planning to head out for some shopping or considering exploring Boxing Day sales at nearby malls and stores are cautioned by police about significant traffic congestion on Highway 401 this afternoon.

The OPP Highway Safety Division issued an alert just before 10:30 a.m., advising drivers of traffic delays starting at the westbound off-ramp of Trafalgar Road, near the Toronto Premium Outlet.

Police have not provided details regarding the cause of the congestion.

Authorities are also urging motorists not to park or walk on the shoulder of the highway or the exit ramp.
