There are major delays on Highway 401 in Mississauga following a crash that left two people dead.
The Ontario Provincial Police said it happened just before 9 a.m. in the eastbound express lanes around Dixie Road.
Two passenger vehicles were involved in a rear-end collision as traffic was slowing.
Two adults died at the scene. Three other people were taken to hospital with injuries, though the OPP didn’t say how serious their injuries were.
An Ornge air ambulance was seen landing on the highway.
The eastbound express lanes of Highway 401 are closed at Mississauga Road.
The transfer from the collector lanes to express is also shut down.
The OPP said shortly after 10 a.m. that vehicles stuck the express lanes would soon be allowed to pass through the scene.
Highway 410 southbound to Highway 401 is also fully closed.
There is a very heavy traffic backup in the area and images from traffic cameras showed the eastbound collector lanes and westbound lanes are also experiencing delays.
Any witnesses to the crash were asked to contact the Mississauga OPP at 905-858-8670.
