Starting next week, a big reconstruction project along Wilson Street E in Ancaster is getting underway and will have an impact on traffic through the area for the summer.

The City of Hamilton said that the roadway, between Filman and Lower Lions Club Road, will be reduced to one lane as Phase One of the project kicks off on Monday (May 9).

This is the first of four phases of the reconstruction project which is expected to wrap up by the middle of September 2022.

The project will see culverts replaced, road resurfacing and bike lane improvements. It will also see pedestrian access to Tiffany Falls Conservation Area improved with the installation of a pedestrian crossover.

In the weeks and months to come, additional lane restrictions will be required to carry out the work. Businesses in the area will remain open during construction.

Both upbound and downbound traffic movement will be maintained, the City said, and temporary traffic signals will be used to help motorists and cyclists through the construction zone.

Motorists should expect significant delays through the area for the duration of the project.

Cyclists travelling in the upbound and downbound directions are urged to consider using the free HSR Mountain Climber program with designated transit stops located at the corner of Rousseaux St and Wilson St E as well as at 2000 Main St W and 1983 Main St W.

Passengers on HSR Routes #5A and #5C Delaware may experience delays.

The project’s timeline is weather permitting. Details, phases and project updates can be found on the City’s website.
