We could see a high number of delays and cancellations at Pearson Airport in Mississauga due to heavy snowfall expected tonight.

Total snowfall amounts of up to 25 cm are possible, and blowing snow from strong winds of up to 60 km/h will drastically affect visibility and make travel difficult.

Multiple airlines have already cancelled flights as a result, including thousands of flights in the eastern U.S.

Travellers expecting to depart or arrive at Pearson today or tomorrow are advised to keep an eye out for possible delays and cancellations, as stormy weather often impacts flight schedules.

The snowstorm will begin tonight (Sunday, Jan. 16), with heavy snow persisting throughout Monday before ending in the evening. The Monday morning commute will also be affected.

The cause of the snowstorm is a low pressure system tracking south of the Great Lakes that will bring heavy snow across much of the region and the eastern GTA. Niagara region could see more than 40 cm and near blizzard conditions on Monday.

More updates to come.

The airport’s website provides updates on all arrivals and departures.
