A major development is in the works next to a GO station in Mississauga.
Infrastructure Ontario is proposing a development of approximately 3,000 residential units in eight towers next to the Cooksville GO Station.
The project plans also include new office, retail and commercial spaces supporting approximately 550 jobs, according to Infrastructure Ontario. A retail plaza, pedestrian-friendly public space, bike lanes and multi-use paths at street level are proposed.
The new development is proposed for two surface parking lots next to Cooksville GO Station. The lots are also near a future Hazel McCallion LRT station.
One parking lot is at Hurontario and John streets, and the second is kitty-corner, between John Street and Hillcrest Avenue.

The development “has the potential to deliver new housing, employment opportunities, and publicly accessible areas that will support the creation of a community that has public spaces for relaxation and play next to the Cooksville GO Station along the Milton Line,” Infrastructure Ontario says.
Designed by Arup, the proposal includes eight towers ranging from 28 to 49 storeys, according to Urban Toronto.
The project is one of the largest transit-oriented community projects in the Greater Toronto Area, Urban Toronto said.
Transit-oriented communities are part of the provincial government’s plan to build new, sustainable transit by placing more housing and jobs near or at transit stations.
There are two public meetings planned on the proposal. The first is a virtual meeting on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. An in-person meeting is scheduled at Father Daniel Zanon School, 450 Hillcrest Ave., on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
To register for a public meeting or learn more about the project, see the Infrastructure Ontario website here.
