Seeing his lucky number come up after buying a lottery ticket was a good omen for a Brampton man who is now $50,000 richer.

Salvatore Palombo from Brampton says he’s been a regular lottery player for a decade, usually playing Lotto 6/49 and Lightning Lotto games.

After hearing about some unclaimed lottery prizes, Palombo said he decided to try his luck playing Instant $50K.

“I played my ticket and saw number 15 come up. I thought that was a good sign since it’s my lucky number,” he said while picking up his winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

But the property manager from Brampton says he wasn’t wearing his glasses when he checked the ticket and had no idea he’d won a $50,000 jackpot.

“The lady next to me at the store had to explain I was a big winner,” he said with a laugh. “I was in such a daze. I didn’t know where I was.”

Palombo said he plans to invest his windfall for the future so he can “continue to enjoy a good life in retirement.”

“This win has come at a wonderful time. I appreciate it very much,” he said.

Instant $50K is available for $50 per play and has a top prize of $50,000. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.68. OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.

The winning ticket was purchased at News West on Langstaff Road in Woodbridge.
