A decision to play Lotto Max together paid off in a big way for a pair of Oakville neighbours.

Lina Bagalla and Marifi Delos Reyes will split $52,113.10 after winning the second prize in the Lotto Max draw on Aug. 9, 2022.

Bagalla and Delos Reyes have been friends and neighbours for 17 years and have been playing the lottery together since 2017.

“I woke up the morning after the draw to check my ticket. I heard the winning tune on the OLG App, but I had to put my glasses on to see what we won. I was shocked – I screamed,” Bagalla said while picking up her lottery winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

When Delos Reyes was told by her neighbour about their win, she had to scan the ticket herself.

“I saw the screen and I almost cried. It was unbelievable,” said Delos Reyes, while grinning ear to ears. “I’m so thankful. Hopefully this win is practice for when we win the big one!”

Bagalla plans to share he win with family.

“I’d like to travel back to the Philippines for a vacation to visit family,” she said.

Delos Reyes plans to save her winnings and put a down payment on a home.

“I have so much I want to do with this money. I am so grateful,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at The Lottery Stop on Rebecca Street in Oakville.
