Loblaw launches new way to shop for groceries in Canada

Loblaw has just launched a new, easy way to shop for groceries in Canada.

The company said in a press release that a “first-of-its kind shopping app” is now available in the AI platform ChatGPT.

The PC Express app within ChatGPT launched Thursday, allowing Canadians to “seamlessly shop for groceries directly from Loblaw grocery stores.”

“Leveraging the PC Express app in ChatGPT and conversational AI, Canadians can explore menu ideas, curate ingredients to make the perfect meal and select suggested products from their local store to fulfil their menu inspirations,” the release said.

A video provided by Loblaw shows an example of how it works.

A customer asks for help planning a meal in ChatGPT and then uses PC Express to answer.

The app asks for their postal code and finds a list of nearby Loblaw-banner stores.

The customer then selects the store they wish to shop from. A list of items, suggested by AI based on the customer’s prompt, then appears on the screen.

The customer then selects which items they want to purchase, and proceeds to checkout.

“We have been on an ambitious path for the past few years focused on the digital customer experience and AI-forward technology adaption,” said Lauren Steinberg, the chief digital officer at Loblaw.

“The PC Express app in ChatGPT solidifies our position as a North American leader in artificial intelligence innovation within the retail sector.”
