Gun seized at Mississauga motel

Two people from Montreal are facing numerous robbery and weapons charges after a loaded handgun was seized by police during a robbery investigation early Saturday morning at a motel in Mississauga’s east end.

Peel Regional Police said in a news release that the arrests were made by Criminal Investigation Bureau officers at the Dundas Street East/The West Mall area motel at about 2 a.m.

Police said investigators were at the motel for a robbery investigation, but didn’t specify if it was the motel or another business/person that was the target.

The subsequent execution of a search warrant later Saturday morning at the motel turned up a loaded Sig Sauer firearm, according to police.

Evens Charlot, 21, and Melody Espinoza Vera, 20, both of Montreal, are each facing charges of robbery, unauthorized possession of firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm and carrying concealed weapon.

Charlot is facing additional charges of utter threat to cause death or bodily harm, breach of probation order and two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order.

At the time of his arrest, he was on probation and has two weapon prohibition orders, police said.

Vera is facing an additional charge of unauthorized possession of prohibited or restricted weapon.

Both were held for bail hearings and await their next appearance in Brampton court.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 1233, or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
