Five people face charges after police seized a loaded handgun, cocaine and fentanyl during an investigation in an Ontario cottage town this week.
Ontario Provincial Police said the gun and drugs, as well as other items, were recovered after officers executed a search warrant at a Collingwood home in the early morning hours on Thursday.
Police said in addition to the 5.5 ounces of cocaine and 26 grams of fentanyl, seven grams of psilocybin, a psychedelic, were also located. Three expandable batons and other evidence of drug trafficking, including $855 in Canadian cash, were also seized.
Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP said in a news release on Friday an investigation into trafficking of cocaine and fentanyl in the Collingwood area began earlier this summer. The probe led to the execution of the search warrant on Thursday at about 3 a.m., investigators added.
Two men and three women, all of Collingwood, were arrested at the home.
One of the accused, a 48-year-old man, faces numerous drug trafficking and firearms charges in addition to a charge of possession of proceeds of crime. He was held for a bail hearing in Barrie court.
The four others face possession for the purpose of trafficking charges. Three of them were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in Collingwood court at a future date, police said.
Police ask anyone who spots suspected drug trafficking or related suspicious activity to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
