A transport truck carrying live chickens crashed on Highway 401 injuring the driver this morning.

The transport collided with a sedan in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401, west of James Snow Parkway in Milton this morning (July 10), OPP said in a post on X just before 7 a.m.

The transport truck driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The HOV lanes Highway 401 were closed west of James Snow Parkway, and other lanes closed intermittently for the clean up.

The OPP told news outlets police had to gather up the chickens because the driver was transported to hospital. Another truck is arriving to transport the chickens.

Wet, slick road surfaces are believed to be a factor in the crash.

Traffic is very heavy in the area and police suggest drivers take alternate routes.

The transport truck is on its side and will take time to clear. The lane closures are expected to last several hours.

In a later update, the OPP said the clean up was expected to be complete around noon.
