Lincoln restaurant named 5th best in the entire country

From the outside, Restaurant Pearl Morissette in Lincoln looks like a pre-fab warehouse sitting awkwardly in the middle of the scenic country landscape.

However, once inside the five-year-old Jordan Station restaurant, diners can expect some of the finest cuisine in the region, nestled inside a spacious yet elegant and romantic setting.

Now it’s been name the fifth best restaurant in the county on the 2023 Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants list, as well as winner of the “Best Destination Restaurant” by the magazine.

The online catalogue of fine dining scoured the country as 130 judges were chosen as a “balanced mix of informed culinary enthusiasts, food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and other food service professionals.”

In the assessment for Restaurant Pearl Morissette, they said the local hot-spot “continues to educe and hone the very essence of elevated dining in Niagara wine country. Ontario-reared chefs Daniel Hadida and Eric Robertson bring their experiences in Paris and rural Belgium, respectively, to their evolved country kitchen. ”

The unconventional look also earned high marks as the judges noted, “The barn space is agrarian-meets-contemporary-Scandi, the dining room’s floor-to-ceiling windows providing a bucolic panorama of the surrounding vineyards, gardens and peach orchard.”

As for the food itself? “Seasonal ingredients — many sourced by in-house forager/gardener Deirdre Fraser or grown on their regenerative farm — are prepared with a modern European sensibility. Think West Coast geoduck with lemon verbena panna cotta, quince, pickled cantaloupe and coriander; or sea urchin from Newfoundland’s Foggy Shoals with Badger Flame beets, pickled quince and savoury sabayon seasoned by habanada peppers.”

They were also impressed with the staff. “Service is exemplary, finding the equilibrium between country casual and fine-dining polish.”

Montreal was the leading city for restaurants this year as 27 of theirs made the Top-100 list.
