Oakville residents will have an opportunity to express their views on a proposed assisted housing development for older adults.

Halton Region is inviting residents to take part in a Public Information Centre Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. on Zoom for the planned development proposal at 1258 Rebecca St., near the Woodside Branch of the Oakville Public Library.

The session will include a presentation by the proposed development, followed by a question and answer period.

In June 2013, Halton Regional Council authorized the purchase of the former St. Hilda’s Church property in Oakville.

In offering the approximately 2-acre property for sale, the Anglican Diocese of Niagara noted their preference that the lands be redeveloped in a manner that would provide a long term benefit to the Oakville community.

A new Paramedic Station was completed in 2020 on the Phase 1 portion of the lands and steps were taken to prepare the remaining lands to permit the development of the assisted living units and detached lots.

The approved land use includes three detached dwellings fronting Rebecca Street and 14 single-storey semi-detached units.
