LATEST POLLS: Voters provide more clues just days from Canada election

We are now just a few days away from the Canadian election.

Soon enough, we will know which party won and who will be Canada’s prime minister.

INsauga.com continues to poll our readers regarding various election-related questions and this week, we received more interesting insight.

Starting on Monday, readers were asked with one week to go, who they planned to vote for.

Among 7,801 responses, as of Friday morning, 49.13 per cent said they would vote for the Liberal Party, followed by 45.93 per cent for the Conservatives.

Just shy of five per cent — 4.94 per cent to be exact — chose the NDP.

It’s consistent with previous polls we’ve conducted in terms of the Liberal Party leading, but the gap between the Liberals and the Conservatives is smaller in this latest poll.

Readers were also asked which party they think will win the election and were given the option of the two frontrunners: either the Liberals or Conservatives.

Despite polls, even beyond INsauga’s, largely showing a Liberal advantage, as of Friday morning 45.21 per cent of more than 2,000 respondents said they think the Conservative Party will win; 54.79 per cent said they think it will be the Liberals.

In a separate poll, INsauga asked what sways voters more than anything else.

These were the results out of 1,874 responses, as of Friday morning:

• The federal party leader themselves — 74.39 per cent
• Candidate debates and speeches — 19.48 per cent
• Word of mouth from friends and family — 3.74 per cent
• Political ads (TV, radio, online) — 2.4 per cent

We also inquired to see how much of an impact the party leaders have on voters.

When asked if they’d vote differently if the party had a different leader, 61.19 per cent of more than 2,700 respondents chose “No – I support the party regardless of who leads it” as of Friday morning.

“Yes – I would support the party if it had a different leader” was chosen by 38.81 per cent of respondents.

Election day is Monday.
