A young black bear roaming around residential streets in Georgetown yesterday, May 18, has been safely captured.

The Town of Halton Hills sent out an update through its officials channels that the wild bear first seen around Georgetown District High School was tranquilized last night by National Wildlife Centre Canada (NWC).

“He is now safe and there are plans to relocate him to be released back into the wild shortly,” said a Town spokesperson.

NWC said the bear was ultimately rescued from a tree and credited Halton police with their assistance that led to a satisfying outcome.

Earlier in the day, many residents were shocked when a front door video camera caught the bear galloping down a residential sidewalk and roaming around front lawns.

Halton police said the bear had been seen around McKinnon Ave. and Barber Dr. It didn’t take long after the experts were called in until the bear was safely captured.
