Construction noise that continues into the night in Mississauga won’t be ending anytime soon.

Residents near the Port Credit GO station have noticed the noise starting around 10:30 p.m., according to a recent post on Facebook.

The work is part of the ongoing construction for the Metrolinx LRT. Normally, the city would have some say on the noise from late-night construction work but not in the case of provincial projects.

“Unfortunately, they do not need city permission,” said Ward 1 Coun. Stephen Dasko who has heard the complaints. “So, whatever the province wants to do, they are able to do it.”

Dasko said he lives too far to hear the noise but understands it disturbs people in the immediate vicinity.

Metrolinx announced the construction and sent out notices in June. There are major changes to the Port Credit GO station due to construction related to the Hurontario LRT, the announcement reads.

Although the announcement says construction is expected to continue until at least the end of 2022, Metrolinx tells insauga.com it may be complete sooner.

“Overnight work is expected to be completed in early November,” a statement from Metrolinx reads. “We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate our neighbour’s patience as we work to complete this work as soon as possible.”

They add that they make “every effort to minimize disruptions where possible, including attaching acoustic blankets to the fast fencing, and placing noise monitors along the corridor.”
