Niagara Region’s largest shopping mall was partially evacuated yesterday for what turned out to be false safety concerns.

Police were called Niagara Pen Centre at 221 Glendale Ave. in St. Catharines Monday (June 10) just after 9 a.m. for a “potential safety concern,” Niagara Regional Police said in a press release today.

Police didn’t specify the nature of the concern.

The mall officially opens at 10 a.m. but officers, out of an abundance of caution, evacuated people in the stores that had opened, police said.

Police searched the mall and surrounding area and deemed there was no known threat.

There were no physical injuries as a result of the incident and there is no threat to the safety of the public, police said.

The mall has reopened.
