This is the culprit that has caused the power loss in Burlington.

A large area of south Burlington will be without electricity for most of the day (July 11).

Burlington Hydro reports fallen trees have taken out power lines which has affected almost 2,000 customers.

The power loss has shut down several downtown businesses and Central Arena, Rotary Youth Centre, Music Centre and the Burlington Seniors’ Centre.

The Central Library is also closed and, as a result, some online services are not working at other library branches.

According to information obtained through Burlington Hydro’s outages map, the areas without power are east of Brant Street, south of Fairview Street, and west of Pomona Avenue.

Burlington Hydro indicates that full restoration time is estimated to be 6 p.m. but some neighbourhoods may see their lights come back on earlier.

“Crews continue to work to restore power in the downtown area affecting approx. 1975 customers. The outage has been caused by fallen trees (pictured),” Burlington Hydro reports on X.
