After months of negotiations with the local school board, largely done behind closed doors, the City of Burlington is ready to take a public step in its attempt to acquire the Robert Bateman High School site.

Some of the details of the deal are included in a staff report that will be discussed at tomorrow’s (May 17) council meeting.

Part of the deal would see the City exchange land adjacent to Burlington Central High School to the Halton District School Board for the Bateman site.

The deal also includes a long-term leaseback of some of the Bateman land to the HDSB, as well as the City’s intention to enter into a long-term lease with Brock University for a portion of the land.

No additional financial details are included in the staff report that is being discussed.

The City land going to the HDSB is where Central High School’s track and football field resides at the corner of Baldwin St. and Hager Ave.

The next step in the process is inviting public comment.
