Lakeridge Gardens LTC in Ajax celebrates first birthday with pair of innovation awards

Multiple award-winning long-term care home Lakeridge Gardens is celebrating its first birthday today.
Operated by Lakeridge Health, Durham’s newest long-term care home opened with much fanfare March 25, 2022 and welcomed its first guest four days later, providing much-needed long-term care services close to home for the people of Durham Region.
The 320-bed facility, the first to be developed under Ontario’s Accelerated Build pilot program, has since been cited twice for its innovation and is also known for its nine-station haemodialysis unit, which opened last fall. This unit increases the quality of life for residents who are able to access treatment in the comfort of their home and is also available to those in the community who require dialysis services.
Last month Lakeridge Gardens and PCL Constructors Canada were honoured with the Toronto Construction Association’s Best of the Best Innovation Award and the facility will receive the Innovation and Excellence Capital Project Award from AdvantAge Ontario – an association that advocates and supports the work of organizations within the not-for-profit long-term care, housing, and services for seniors’ sphere.
This award will be presented in April.
“What an incredible 12 months it has been,” said Lisa McVety, the Administrative Director at Lakeridge Gardens. “Over the last year, we have not only welcomed 320 residents and their families to this home, but also shared in making memories and helped to support them through some of their major life transitions.”

First announced in July, 2020, construction of Lakeridge Gardens was completed in just 13 months, thanks to the collaboration between government partners, PCL, Infrastructure Ontario, Lakeridge Health, and other organizations and sub-trades.
More than 500 team members and volunteers work at the facility.
