Knife-wielding man arrested in downtown Hamilton after altercation with city workers

Hamilton Police have arrested and charged a man after an altercation with workers from the City of Hamilton when the man allegedly brandished a knife.

According to a police press release, officers were called to the area of Wentworth and Cannon Streets on Wednesday to reports of a man wielding a knife.

“Two City of Hamilton waste management workers were in the course of their duties when they were approached by a male who brandished a knife in their direction,” the release said.

“The employees were able to retreat from the situation safely and call police.”

Neither of the City employees was injured in the altercation, police said.

Officers subsequently arrested a 36-year-old man and charged him with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Two counts of possession contrary to order
  • Three counts of fail to comply with release order

The suspect in the case is expected to appear in a Hamilton court on Thursday where he will answer the charges
