Officials have identified the motorcycle rider killed in a head-on crash near Caledon as a mother of two from Kitchener.

Around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 21), the Caledon OPP say officers and emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9 near Highway 50, northeast of Caledon.

Police say a motorcycle and a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer collided head on, and the motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deceased has been identified by police as Nichole Hartung, 36, of Kitchener. An obituary posted online says Hartung is survived by her partner Dom and her two sons.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and no horses in the trailer were injured, police said.

A celebration of Hartung’s life and motorcycle-oriented swap meet is planned for Sept. 24 at the Woodside National Historic Site in Kitchener from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and a GoFundMe page has also been set up to help the Hartung family cover expenses.

“We are looking to help the family in this time of need to cover their expenses over the next little while,” the crowdfunding page reads. “No donation is too small and will go directly to the family.”

As of 3:00 p.m. on Friday, the fundraiser had received nearly $6,000 in donations of a $10,000 goal.
