A 42-year-old Kitchener man was arrested in Hamilton Thursday morning.

Hamilton Police said the man was stunt driving while under the influence of cannabis.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. police say an officer was travelling northbound on Highway 6 when he “noted an ongoing vehicle had crossed over the centre line at a high rate of speed”.

Police said once the vehicle passed the fully marked cruiser, the officer changed his direction and “located the vehicle a short time later as it was held up with traffic”.

While interacting with the 42-year-old man from Kitchener, police believed he was operating his vehicle while under the influence of a drug.

“Through continued investigation, police located evidence of cannabis in the immediate area of the driver’s seat”, said police, which seized cannabis in liquid and joint form.

The suspect was arrested and taken into police custody.

Police said the cannabis was likely purchased illegally.

The man is scheduled to appear in court on Oct 5 to answer to several charges:

  • Speeding—144 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone
  • Stunt Driving
  • Unlawful purchase of Cannabis
  • Operate motor vehicle with Cannabis readily available
