Canadian rocker Kim Mitchell takes to the stage tonight (June 15) at the Sound of Music Festival in Burlington.

Mitchell is the headline performer at the free outdoor event at Spencer Smith Park.

He is scheduled to perform at 9:30 p.m.

The famous former frontman for the band Max Webster, Mitchell has had a long solo career with a loyal following as he continues to perform across the country

A Canadian music icon who has been part of the entertainment landscape for six decades, Mitchell has created several rock anthems including Go For Soda. Rock N Ron Duty, Patio Lanterns, Am a Wild Party. Easy TO Tame and All We Are as well as those from his days with Max Webster.

Other performers today include Kathleen Edwards, the Lowest of the Low, Restless Road and Alli Walker.

Aside from the musical performances, several family-friendly events will be featured throughout the weekend.

The Streetfest will take over Brant Street from Caroline Street to Lakeshore Road which will closed off from traffic on Saturday and Sunday. There will be street musicians, dancing, shopping and plenty of dining opportunities at local restaurants. A midway with rides and food vendors will also be at the park.

While parking is at a premium in downtown Burlington, Shepherd urged those who don’t live in the area to take the shuttle bus to the site, carpool or take a taxi.

“It’s going to be crowded,” he said, “but this is what you do in Burlington at this time every year. You come to the Sound of Music and you have fun.”
