Kidnapping suspect wanted after victim found safe in Ontario

One man has been arrested and police are searching for a second suspect following a kidnapping north of Toronto earlier this month.

York Regional Police say the male victim was reported missing on July 7 from his business in the area of Denison Street and Woodbine Avenue in Markham.

Information gathered at the scene led officers to believe the man had been kidnapped. Investigators safely located the victim two days later, police say.

One male suspect has since been arrested and charged, but police are searching for a second suspect and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Haidong Zhou, 39, of Toronto, has been charged with kidnapping with a firearm and forcible confinement.

Jianwei “John” FAN, 44, also of Toronto, is wanted for conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. Investigators have been unable to locate him and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Police are urging Fan to seek legal advice and turn himself in, and say anyone providing assistance to him may be subject to criminal charges.
