Two men are in custody after police say they ran from a stolen car, only for a K9 unit to track them to a nearby creek in Oshawa.

Durham Regional Police officers found two men sitting in a stolen car on Pennel Dr., a suburban street near Harmony Rd. and Taunton Rd., shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 2.

The 911 caller noted that the pair were wearing ski masks while sitting in the car.

Once the pair noticed the police, they drove off leading the officers on a brief chase. However, the chase was soon called off.

The pair then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Investigators brought in a K9 unit to track the pair from the car. Police Service Dog Brooks soon arrived at the scene and tracked the pair down to a nearby creek.

Thanks to Brooks, two men, aged 23 and 24, both of Montreal were arrested. They now face numerous charges, though police did not specify which.
