July 5 weather: Heat wave eases with 26 C highs and rain in parts of southern Ontario

A change in the weather is expected across southern Ontario on Sunday as temperatures ease from the recent heat while comfortable summer conditions settle into much of the region.

Early risers hoping to catch a colourful morning sky while sipping their favourite warm beverage will have plenty to look forward to, as Sunday’s 5:38 a.m. sunrise arrives under mostly clear skies.

Mississauga, Brampton and Durham will enjoy plenty of sunshine, with a mix of sun and clouds expected in Mississauga and Brampton and mainly sunny skies in Durham. Daytime highs will reach 26 C, feeling closer to 31 with the humidex.

Halton will see a mix of sun and cloud with temperatures climbing to 25 C and a humidex of 31 as winds increase to 20 km/h in the afternoon.

Hamilton will remain mainly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers and the risk of a thunderstorm. Temperatures will rise to 24 C with a humidex of 30 as winds build to 20 km/h.

The UV index will be 9, or very high, across southern Ontario. Environment Canada recommends taking precautions when the UV index reaches 3 or higher, including wearing sunscreen, sunglasses and protective clothing, and limiting prolonged sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.

Sunset begins at 9 p.m.

By evening, Mississauga, Brampton, Halton and Durham will see clear skies. Overnight lows will range from 18 C in Mississauga, Brampton and Durham to 19 C in Halton.

Hamilton will remain partly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of rain early in the evening and the risk of a thunderstorm before conditions improve overnight. Temperatures will settle at 19 C.
