July 26 weather: It will feel like 34 C before thunderstorms move into southern Ontario

Summer heat will make a comeback across southern Ontario on Sunday as temperatures climb above 25 C. While much of the day is expected to remain dry, there is a chance of thunderstorms developing during the afternoon.

Early risers hoping to enjoy colourful morning views alongside their favourite warm beverage are in for a treat, as Sunday’s 5:56 a.m. sunrise will arrive under clear skies.

Mississauga, Brampton and Halton will see mainly cloudy skies with afternoon highs of 28 C, while Durham will experience a mix of sun and clouds before similar temperatures reach 28 C.

Hamilton will also see a mix of sun and clouds after morning fog patches dissipate, with a high of 27 C.

Humidex values will hover around 34 across the region, making conditions feel noticeably hotter. There is a 40 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon, with a risk of thunderstorms.

The UV index will hit a high 7 in Mississauga, Brampton and Halton, while Hamilton and Durham are forecast to reach a very high 8.

Environment Canada recommends taking precautions when the UV index reaches 3 or higher, including wearing sunscreen, sunglasses and protective clothing, and limiting prolonged sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.

Sunday night will remain mainly cloudy, with a 40 per cent chance of rain and a risk of thunderstorms continuing across southern Ontario.

The evening will remain on the warmer side as overnight lows fall to 20 C in Mississauga, Brampton, Halton and Durham, and 19 C in Hamilton.
