July 1 weather: High that feels like 45 C and thunderstorms in southern Ontario

Wednesday is expected to bring thunderstorms and a daytime high that feels like 45 C or higher to the Greater Toronto Area and southern Ontario.

Environment Canada says the morning will bring a mix of sun and clouds with a 40 per cent chance of showers to Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Oshawa and the Niagara Falls area.

There’s a risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon in the GTA, and heat warnings have been issued with a high of 36 C in Mississauga that could feel as hot as 46 C due to the humidity.

Those planning to celebrate Canada Day should take precautions against the heat, and limit their alcohol consumption as it increases dehydration and raises the risk of heat-related illness like heat stroke.

Wednesday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers early in the evening, followed by a risk of thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 40 km/h.

Looking ahead to Thursday, the heat wave is expected to continue with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 35 C before accounting for the humidex. Thursday evening will be cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a low 23 C.
