Joint project recovers vehicles stolen from driveways in Milton, Oakville, Burlington

Project Eleanor recovered 32 stolen vehicles with a value of about $2.2 million.

Halton police have recovered 32 vehicles, worth more than $2M, stolen in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.

Project Eleanor grew out of the rash of auto thefts in the region and is a partnership between the Halton Regional Police Service and the Canada Border Services Agency.

Beginning in January, police investigated thieves responsible for the reprogramming theft and trafficking of high-end SUV’s and pickup trucks in Halton and throughout the GTA.

Several suspects were identified and the location of a shipping yard was discovered. Over the course of two days, criminal code search warrants were executed at a residence in Toronto and a shipping yard in Mississauga.

Investigators also located and seized $11,000 in Canadian currency, stolen property and technology used in reprogramming auto theft.

The following people were arrested in connection with the investigation.

Alexandre Doyon, 22, of Toronto, Konstantinos Sotiropoulos, 22, of Quebec, and Gustavo Salazar, 23, of Toronto, all face charges of theft over $5000 (of motor vehicle), possession of automobile master key, and possession of break-in instruments.

Doyon also faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime, trafficking in property obtained by crime, and fraud under $5000

Bailey Gaulin, 19, of Toronto, has been charged with fraud under $5000.

Investigators continue to make efforts to arrest other individuals connected to the investigation.
